A Canvas Story (Part 3)

The composition of the new painting came together quickly. I loved the viewpoint from the ground looking skyward through the backlit canopy. The scene glowed, and that’s what I wanted to capture. A generous treatment of golds, yellows and browns against blues and purples would make it pop.

The pictures below show the old underlying texture of the previous painting and close up details of brushstrokes.

Placing another layer of blue on select parts of the background to brighten up the sky.

After a few months of alternating sessions of new paint layers and drying time, it was finally time to varnish this painting. The new title had already been established, ”Light in the Canopy,” and I posted a fun little reel to Instagram here.

However, another unexpected chapter in this painting’s life was being written before it could fully be finished. Of course, that will be detailed in Part 4, coming December 5!
